Donald Macleod, 1 Upper Bayble

Lewisman killed during collision
Donald Macleod, RNR, son of Mr John Macleod, 1 Upper Bayble, was killed during a collision on 25 April 1916. The deceased seaman, aged 36, left a widow and four children. His widow, daughter of Donald Macleod, 11 Port Voller, has received a letter of sympathy from Commander Hambly:
“It is with deepest sympathy that I write to you in your great affliction to tell you on behalf of myself, officers and men, that your husband, by his genial manner and strict attention to duty earned for himself the esteem of officers and men alike. Your husband has given his life in the grand cause we fight for and will be honoured as one of those who perished in defending the cause of liberty. His funeral was carried out in the most solemn and revered manner and the grave is surrounded with flowers from his shipmates. His end is peace.
