We regret to announce that news has been received by Mr James Macleod, 10 Steinish, Stornoway, of the death in actioin of his son, Pte Malcolm Macleod. The deceased was twenty years of age, and had served in France for over a year with the Seaforths. Last autumn he was wounded, and spent some weeks in a French hospital, but on recovering was sent back to his regiment. Much sympathy is felt in the district for the sorrowing relatives. The following letter has been received by Mr Macleod from a Lieut. in the regiment with which Malcolm served.
"Dear Mrs Macleod, it is with the deepest regret that I have to inform you of the death of your son, who was killed in action on 23rd March 1918. Your son was one of the finest soldiers we had in C Company, always willing and obliging and never finding anything too hard for him to do. He was a universal favourite amongst his comrades, and I can secure you of the deepest sympathy of every officer and man in C Company in your great bereavement."
