Murdo Macdonald, 29 Tolsta Chaolais

The death of Murdo Macdonald, son of Mr and Mrs James Macdonald, 29 Tolsta Chaolais, took place on 17th May 1918, at the early age of 22 years. Murdo, who was a Corpl. in the Cameron Highlanders, was discharged from the service in the early days of the war, being found medically unfit. But he was a lad who possessed fine  qualities and was "no shirker". Shortly after his discharge, he entered the Merchant Service, where he was employed for two years. During that time he had experience in many parts of the world. While on a voyage through the Western Ocean in January 1917, he fell sick and was landed in Boston USA, where he was sent to hospital. Sailing to this country with his ship, he made his way home, but never recovered. An intelligent young man and a pleasant comrade, Murdo, like other smart sons of Tolsta, has passed on a "happier voyage" owing to his grim struggle. His bright and cheery way, which he retained to the end, will be long remembered by all who came in contact with him. The heartfelt sympathy of the community goes out to his sorrowing parents, brothers and sister in their sad bereavement.
