On Friday [5th January 1917] there were laid to rest in Sandwick Cemetery the remains of Albert Davidson of Bermondsey (London), who was drowned near Tiree the previous Sunday whilst following his vocation of diver. Deceased, attached to Stornoway patrol, was a young man of 21 years and had been engaged as a diver for about two years. His body was interred with naval honours and the procession to the graveyard was a very impressive one.
